Mirasan® TWR

Specialist cleaner for drinking water installations.

Composition

Mirasan® TWR is a combination of organic and inorganic acids, wetting agents and inhibitors.

Preparation

After draining the drinking water tank prior to cleaning, hose down with water to rinse away any sludge and sand on the floor of the tank. Large amounts of sludge may need to be removed manually. Then rinse with water in the same way. This is absolutely essential, because it is important for the floor of the tank to be cleaned and disinfected as well as the sides and top. If necessary, the residue is sealed inside the tank after preliminary cleaning to allow the cleaning solution and rinsing water to neutralise.

Application:

When cleaning a tank for the first time we recommend using neat Mirasan® TWR. For particularly old or stubborn incrustations, repeat the treatment.

For subsequent treatments Mirasan® TWR can be diluted with water in a ratio of up to 1:20. Using our Miramat sprayer results in a more economical application as compared with cleaning with brushes. The use of a telescopic spray lance allows you to work from the floor at all times, avoiding the cost and effort of erecting scaffolding.

Spray Mirasan® TWR onto the walls and floor of the water tank using the Miramat low-pressure sprayer. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse away the deposits with a standard water jet. The only way to check that the tank has been rinsed out properly is to test the pH. This should correspond to the original pH of the drinking water (+/- 0.2).

If iron and manganese deposits are present, use the additive Ferro Plus.

Dissolve Ferro Plus in 5 kg of water and add to the stock solution.

When dissolved, Ferro Plus provides 25 kg of high-quality, ready-to-use product. This solution should be used within 2 to 3 days, however.

After treatment

As the products used are biodegradable, if treated surfaces are not adequately rinsed there is a risk of increased colonisation with microorganisms, which can contaminate the contents of the tank. For that reason it is absolutely essential to thoroughly rinse all surfaces which have come into contact with the product.

Before draining off the spray water from the bottom of the tank into drainage channels or the sewage system, measure the pH and if necessary adjust it to approximately pH 7. We recommend the use of Mirasan® neutraliser and indicator papers for neutralisation. The neutralised spray water can be released into a biological waste treatment plant at any time.

All surfaces including the top can be disinfected with Mirasan® PEROX if required. This is particularly recommended in the case of renovation work and contamination.

Compatibility

Mirasan® products are proven to be fully compatible with all common linings and approved coatings for drinking water installations, including:

  • Concrete
  • Epoxy resin
  • Tiles
  • Paint
  • Chlorinated rubber and PVC coatings

provided they are resistant to acidic products. Galvanised parts should not be treated.

If the drinking water tank contains a large number of stainless steel fittings, the hydrochloric acid-free product Mirasan® Green should always be used.

Following treatment, we recommend filling the tank with water up to a level of a few centimetres and letting this drain away again slowly.

The tank can then be filled up and a water sample taken for testing. We also recommend taking a sample of the water supply.

For adequate washing of tank walls we recommend using at least 200 l of water per kg of Mirasan® TWR. With this level of dilution, the rinsing solution can be drained off or discharged into the sewage system in accordance with regulations.

Notes

For all work we recommend the use of appropriate protective clothing, such as

  • Acid-resistant overalls
  • Rubber boots
  • Rubber gloves
  • Helmet
  • Goggles
  • and if necessary a face mask

The use of a Plexiglas visor attached to the helmet is particularly effective as an alternative to goggles. It protects the whole face as well as the eyes, and it does not mist up in the way that goggles can. If despite these precautions spray should come into contact with the skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

Practical experience has shown that the use of Mirasan® products has no harmful side-effects on operators. People with very sensitive skin (allergies) should avoid contact with the product or at least use a barrier skin cream.

We only recommend the use of a special protective mask in extreme cases, i.e. in difficult working conditions (small water tanks with inadequate ventilation). A respiratory mask with the appropriate filter for our product can be ordered from us.

Safety of operation can only be guaranteed by compliance with the operating instructions and appropriate handling by trained personnel. Incorrect usage may lead to structural damage. If the resistance of building materials to acidic products is unknown, the user is responsible for carrying out appropriate tests.
